MAACE BUSINESS MEETING

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2008

Please join us for our Annual MAACE Business meeting on Tuesday, September 16, 2008, after the Data Quality training in Helena.   Topics of discussion will include:

MEMBERSHIP

The Board is recommending that the membership vote to raise membership dues from $25.00 to $50.00 per year.  Remember, our new program year will follow the academic calendar:  July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009.  Almost everyone has to renew their memberships.  New membership forms will be available at the meeting.  Membership forms at $25.00 per year can be accessed via the following link:  http://www.nwlincs.org/mtlincs/maacemem/memform08.pdf

MEA Conference Sectionals

MAACE will again be sharing a hospitality room with MCTM and we have several sectionals at MEA in Missoula, October 17 & 18, 2008.  Thank you to Rose Steiner, Kathie Daviau, and the Missoula Adult Education Center for all of the work they have put into setting up a complete schedule of sectionals.  We encourage everyone to attend.  Part of getting the word out about Adult Ed is networking and sharing with other educators around the state.  Do you want to have a social get together in Missoula at that time?  If so, who will organize it?

MPAEA Representative

Suzette’s term as a representative for MPAEA will expire after our conference in Las Vegas March 1-4, 2009.  Please inform any member of the Board if you would like to represent Montana at our regional meetings for the next two years.  Jake Gustin is also a MPAEA representative.  Detlef Johl is the treasurer for MPAEA.

Board Members

The following three board members will have fulfilled their two-year commitments at the close of the meeting on September 16:  Suzette Fox – Eastern Region, Darrel Hannum – At Large, and Jack Eggensperger – Western Region.  We need at least three people to step forward to serve for the next two years.  Please contact a board member today if you are interested in serving on the MAACE Board.  We will not have a full board to represent us unless people volunteer to serve.

Paid Positions

Secretary & Treasurer are paid positions.  The board voted to reduce salaries last year, but to keep the paid positions to maintain consistency for our membership and financial records.  The new MAACE Board will be looking at the duties and salaries of these individuals who have graciously served us for several years. 

Advocacy

Although MAACE continues to partner with OPI for professional development opportunities, we will need to strengthen our advocacy for Adult Education this year so our message is heard at both the state and national levels.  Please consider joining the MAACE Board and/or volunteer to help keep our membership informed on these issues.  We need your help to strengthen our professional presence and to work as a team for improved funding.
